PEANUT PULLING PARTY!!!

We're running out of daylight pretty quickly these days!! Thanks to all who showed up to help dig up the peanuts, strip them and take them home!! Congrats to the five kids who found the LONGEST/BIGGEST peanuts!!! So much fun!! There are still green beans, peas, and carrots in the garden. Enjoy what you can, WHILE you can!! It's getting time to put the garden to sleep for the winter...all two months of it here in Dixie!!! *_*

CORN PICKING AND PULLING!!

OCTOBER 9th and it's time to get the cornstalks out of SIX beds!! Luckily, we had lots of willing hands show up to help with all of the work. It was great!!

HOW IT ALL BEGAN!!

People often wonder how the Santa Clara Community Garden came about. Here are the details:

Our local church leadership asked for ideas of how we could help people in all aspects of their lives, whether they are members of our congregation, or not. After some discussion "a garden" was suggested as being able to help people physically (provides food), mentally (you learn a lot by raising a garden), emotionally (the social interaction with other people is very beneficial), and spiritually (being reminded as we work in the soil that we are all God's creation, and by nurturing the soil and the plants we grow, we also nurture our souls!) So, the "why don't you check it out..." was given, and the rest is history!

The owner of the lot, Mr. Anton Tonc, was willing to allow us the use of the lot. Santa Clara City was VERY helpful in giving us approval. Then there were MANY, MANY people who worked, donated, raked, shoveled, trenched, ran sprinkler lines, etc., to make the garden a reality.

With the Spring of 2020, we begin our 11th year of community gardening! Truly amazing, and such a blessing to all who have participated!!
