BEST GARDEN PARTY EVER!!!
We love October for lots of reasons, but the garden party is one of the best reasons!! We had a great turn out of kids, parents and grandparents to help pull four beds of corn, and two VERY prolific beds of peanuts!! And the kids really outdid themselves in getting TONS of peanuts pulled off the plants, and deciding which ones they would enter in the "longest peanut" contest!! Turned out to be a three-way tie between Alayna Dover, Braden Sappington, and Joelle ______. They each won a bottle of bubbles, AND then lots of other kids who worked in groups picking BUCKETS full of peanuts also won bubbles!! It was a great night, lots of yelling and screaming in excitement, and there were even treats!!
THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO CAME, HELPED OUT, and ENJOYED THE EVENING TOGETHER!!!

CORN WATCH. . .
We planted the "pre-sprouted" corn on Monday evening, July 29th. I thought it would be fun to watch the corn grow on the blog...so I'll be taking pictures daily...or as often as I can... and post them on the blog so we can watch our amazing corn patch grow before our eyes!! Check back occasionally to see how it's doing...or drive by, if you're in the vicinity.

CORN PLANTING TIME. . . And More!!!
What a great turnout we had in the garden!! Perfect weather, so many fun people to be around, lots accomplished, and food and games, too!! Can't beat it!!
All six beds of corn (Silver King and Peaches N Cream) were planted, the last bed of "potato fingers" was dug up resulting in a bucket of yummy potatoes! We had tomatoes galore, even though one of our gardeners picked in the morning...she thought she had picked all the tomatoes and felt bad she hadn't "left us any." Well, if you look at the pictures, you'll see just how many tomatoes she didn't leave us!!!
We had LOTS of squash that has hidden for quite a while, there were cucumbers galore, and the kids had a blast pulling onions!! And that was the WORK part of the party.
When we were all done, we enjoyed eating tasty treats everyone had brought, eating popcorn from the Gali's popcorn machine, and the kids (young and a bit older...) enjoyed the bean bag toss (more like "chuck as hard as you can!!")
Thanks to all who participated. The garden continues to be a source of "goodness" in SO many different ways!!
(Be sure to drive by the garden occasionally and see how long it takes the corn to pop up. I'm guessing by next Monday things should be showing up!!)

PICKING, PULLING AND PREPPING THE GARDEN!!!
What a great work "hour" we had this morning!! Isn't it fun to know we're just working for one hour, and then being able to see how much we got done!?! (I wish my mom would have had this strategy when we were growing up. *_* )
In ONE hour we PICKED tomatoes, squash, zucchini, and cucumbers; we PULLED up all the carrots (along with weeds, dying squash & zucchini plants, and dead tomato plants!), and SIX beds were PREPPED with compost for our planting night on Monday, July 29th!! Thanks to our amazing workers!! Enjoy the pictures!
