EARLY CROPS IN DIXIE'S SUNSHINE!!!

We were about 1 week later to plant than usual...but it was still great to be out in JANUARY and planting half of the garden!  Yep, we planted pre-soaked and sprouted peas, beets, carrots, onions, potatoes, lettuce, and spinach.  We had a lot of people turn out to help and it worked beautifully!  The sun joined the party, too, and made for a perfect hour of planting!  Now we'll just let Mother Nature do her thing and see how these "early" crops do.  Then we'll plant more in March!

Bob and Lea Porter...volunteers for 8 years in a row!!  Wow!!

ALL OF THE PLANTING GOT DONE!!!  AMAZING!!!  IN ONE HOUR!!!  THANKS, EVERYONE!!!

Getting ready for the 2017 planting season...we've had quite a bit of rain, and it made tilling the soil absolutely perfect!!!  Next week's weather forecast says we'll be into the 60's and more!  The peas, beets, carrots, onions, potatoes, lettuce and spinach are SOOOO excited!!!

PEANUT PULLING...AND MORE!!!

Had a GREAT turnout for a "last minute" work party!!  Due to rain on Monday night, we postponed, and then got to work on Tuesday night.  We started at 6:00 p.m. and ended at 7:15...in that short time we pulled and loaded into the horse trailer six beds of cornstalks, we picked and pulled two beds worth of green beans, and we dug up the LARGE bed of peanuts...all of the  50 feet long and 10 feet wide peanut bed.  Everyone pitched in where they could and made short work of everything.  At the end we had a "biggest peanut" contest...it sure was close, but the youngest Purirri girl won, beating out her brother by a mere peanut breath!!  Fun for everyone!!!  THANKS FOR THE HELP!!!!

CORN PLANTING and MORE!!!

What a great turnout we had tonight!!!  Thanks to everyone's help we got SIX beds of corn planted, two beds of onions weeded, lots MORE weeding, and lots of zucchini and squash picked.  The "cucumber hunters" did an amazing job hunting out all the cucumbers that were hiding under the plants...some were huge!!!  Watch the garden closely and by the end of the week I'll bet we see lots of green shoots poking out of the earth.  It really is MIRACLE CORN!!!
