Times Flies...When the Garden Grows!

Much has happened in the last six weeks...and all the garden cares about is growing and growing!!

Today we put cages around a lot of the tomato plants (if anyone has reinforcing mesh laying around, we'd love to use it for cages in the garden!!), hilled up all of the potatoes, and pulled some weeds before picking beets, lettuce, carrots and spinach!  Below are a few pictures from the last few garden parties!

Tomatoes are in...let the wind begin!!

So much work has been done the past week!!  Thanks to the many many helpers who have come to the garden to join in the fun!  Monday, March 31, 2020, we took shifts so as not to have too many, too close together at the garden.  We got over FIFTY plants put into the ground, in deep holes so they'd develop good root systems while being protected by the April winds that always come up as soon as the tomatoes are planted!!  "We can sleep when the wind blows!"

Lots of onion sets were planted, and the last of the compost donated by Republic Waste was just enough for the last two beds.  Thanks to the Call family for doing a great job with that!  And thanks to everyone!  The garden is looking great!!

With many of the seeds planted now, we can sit back, enjoy the beautiful weather, and anxiously awaited the seedlings to pop through the soil!

SPRING and Social Distancing???

I am SO glad that gardening doesn't take people being close to each other to be done.  We've been able to meet and help out and get so much done in spite of Covid19!!  The fresh air does wonders for the body and soul, the smiles and talking across the bed, planting seeds helps give us confidence in the future, and the break destroys the monotony of being indoors all day long!!  Thanks to everyone who has come and helped prepare for the future!!!

As we transplanted hundreds of onion sets, with each plant going in the ground I thought, "THIS will grow to bless someone's life in a few months...and THIS will bless someone's life!!"  When we do things to help others, even if it doesn't cost us anything but a bit of our time, we reap all kinds of benefits!  If you haven't experienced this, come join us at the community garden!!

If you feel a need to self-quarantine even more, feel free to go to the garden at other times and pull weeds, or pick rocks out of the beds, do some general clean-up, and you will feel the great benefits, too!!
