Getting ready for corn planting next week...July 23rd!!

We had a great turnout this morning, getting lots of things picked, weeds pulled, dying plants pulled, beds composted, and veggies distributed among all the helpers...And it only took ONE hour!!! Love our system!!! Thanks everyone!!!

JULY - Update. . .

I've taken lots of pictures...but forgotten to update our blog...oops!! The weather has been WONDERFUL, and the garden is producing beautifully!! Thanks to EVERYONE for all of the help in making this garden a beautiful addition to our great community of Santa Clara!! Enjoy the pics!

Oh What A Beautiful Morning. . . Oh What A Beautiful Day!!!

The sunshine has finally found Dixie, and is working its wonders!!! The garden is a beautiful place to be, and is even more enjoyable with lots of people helping out!!

Part of our onion-thinning crew...did great until they were overcome with tears!!

HOW IT ALL BEGAN!!

People often wonder how the Santa Clara Community Garden came about. Here are the details:

Our local church leadership asked for ideas of how we could help people in all aspects of their lives, whether they are members of our congregation, or not. After some discussion "a garden" was suggested as being able to help people physically (provides food), mentally (you learn a lot by raising a garden), emotionally (the social interaction with other people is very beneficial), and spiritually (being reminded as we work in the soil that we are all God's creation, and by nurturing the soil and the plants we grow, we also nurture our souls!) So, the "why don't you check it out..." was given, and the rest is history!

The owner of the lot, Mr. Anton Tonc, was willing to allow us the use of the lot. Santa Clara City was VERY helpful in giving us approval. Then there were MANY, MANY people who worked, donated, raked, shoveled, trenched, ran sprinkler lines, etc., to make the garden a reality.

With the Spring of 2020, we begin our 11th year of community gardening! Truly amazing, and such a blessing to all who have participated!!
